I think there would have been less controversy if the official Mastodon app would had sent the user to a random general Mastodon server with open sign-ups, rather than only to mastodon.social .

(I asked some of the people who were upset over it if they would still be upset under the alternative scenario I just described — at least the ones I talked to said “no”.)

Some people call me by my username (“reiver”) when they meet me in person.

To me, it is as much my name as my given-names are.

Which never used to be a problem — as it is an obscure English word using its archaic spelling —

But, there are a lot more people on the Internet now, than there were two or more decades ago. So sometimes it gets taken by someone else.

I am investigating improving password resetting in the PostFreely applications.

PostFreely inherited limited password reset abilities. I am now looking at improving this. And making it so that PostFreely has a more comprehensive set of methods for resetting passwords.
