The 60’s messed with us. Two things come to mind:
-
A large chunk of hippies who I met went fully opposite, they embraced capitalism and the opportunities presented to them due to unlocked access of education and society becoming and being less hierarchical. And then they pulled up the ladder, denying the next generation the same benefits.
-
Conservatives got collective heart attacks across the globe and a counter movement started to eradicate the things and goals achieved during the 60’s. This took a couple of decades but we all know you can count on with conservatives, they have long goal vision and stamina.
So, the generation who got freedoms and opportunities of the likes you will most probably never ever see in your lifetime is almost dead, they will not help out and remedy this, they are done.
And we can see in the world right now what the counter movement of conservatives has achieved, they ‘win’ at just about every turn, especially politically. This is not likely to go away, it will probably get worse.
Enjoy the results of the 60’s, hippies and conservative plans to tackle that pesky freedom and equality shit…
Labels really suck. I don’t believe that hippies could possibly be so heterogeneous. Mostly, they were united in the 1960s in their anti-war position. Their older brothers/relatives died in Korea. And their friends and schoolmates were dying in Vietnam. And for what? Someone else’s war? But I don’t think they had too much else in common. Well, maybe drugs, LOL.
Conservatives is a crappy label too. My view is that the Republican party has become that party that wants an authoritarian oligarchy. Now they can check that off their list.
I say Republicans, instead of Conservatives, because the latter word has a much more time invariant definition. Republican position on the other hand has changed considerably since Republican Abe Lincoln’s time.
