Having finally transitioned fully away from Reddit, I’m also trying to cut ties with other social media as much as possible.

The one thing I can’t seem to find - and this might be the client I’m using or default federation rules or just plain down to the fact that this topic is most popular with people who don’t necessarily have the technological wherewithal to move away from Facebook/Instagram/TikTok, or even feel the need to do so…

Anyway I’m in dire need of some federated smut discussion. Reviews. Recommendations. Fangirling out about new releases. I could go on but it feels a bit pointless, I think I made my point.

Do you guys have any recommendations?

Thanks! Looks like it’s my client blocking my view from all of these communities, including via search. First one isn’t even clickable and second appears empty.

I’m currently using Interstellar. Got any recommendations for iOS that can handle Lemmy, mBin AND PieFed, while not over-filtering NSFW? Interstellar doesn’t seem to have any proper toggles aside from “covering up sensitive content”, which I’ve already had disabled.

EDIT: Looks like the second link’s domain is down, and up for sale?

If a community looks empty it may just be that nobody on your instance is subscribed so it hasn’t federated - looking at the web frontend of the host instance is a good way to check for real. If you like what you see on the web, subscribing from the app should bring new content in as it’s posted

You might try asking in the book specific communities and see what turns up? 🤔

Dunno specifically, as the closest I get to that orbit are my wife’s Bridgerton books. LOL.

You could also look at non-federated sites, the kind that have often been around longer than reddit. Heck, maybe there is enough audience on Lemmy to have a community around it on one of the bigger servers. lemmynsfw afaik is mostly a porn site (it feeds through to the “all” page) and chirp.social looks dead/domain squatted.
