I’m frankly mystified by anyone who thinks Mastodon is “too technical.”

Please explain. Because the steps as far as I know are:

1. Want a mastodon account
2. Search for “join mastodon”
3. Pick a server
4. Create an account
5. Enjoy mastodon

Getting the core of FB users to move off FB is going to be REALLY hard.

Because people who would love to get off of it are connected there to people who think it is just fine. And those people are also afraid of change.

I ran a Hubzilla site for a while, and first, it was a pain in the ass to get set up.

Second, the UI is terrible.

Third, Hubzilla seems entirely populated by cranky old men, inexplicable foreigners, and FOSS advocates who talk of nothing else.

I shut it down.

Can we poison our posts by putting a nonsense “signature” at the end of each of them?

The communities tab now gives a dropdown menu that appears to be correct.

I clicked on the “Communities” drop down and got a site wide error.

The very first page I tried going to off that landing page errored out.

This all sounds great, but everyone should keep in mind that we have NO way of verifying that the OP does not work for an intelligence agency.

Low engagement and tends towards geeky grumpy right wing old men. Or Germans.

I wish I could say this is great, but it’s an unreadable mess. Looks like EEDT.

It’s mainly about no Nazis.

How can anyone read any of this? The graphic is unreadable to me.

All of them.

Every news org. Every University. Every high school. The SPCA. Doctors Without Borders. Swing Left. Every brand that has a following: iCloud should include one with their services. Every band/performance group—I’m surprised They Might Be Giants hasn’t jumped on this.
