Boost. It was my preferred Reddit client back before spez Elon-ed Reddit, so when the Lemmy version released, I purchased it to thank the dev for putting in the work to support Lemmy. It made my move to Lemmy super smooth.

A few do on BluRay, although that’s likely not going to last much longer, since the studios seem to really want to kill off physical media.
I like them too, there are still a few movies that get a 3D release (although live action movies now are pretty much all just 3D conversion). Wikipedia lists 12 movies released this year that got 3D releases, 5 of those are animated movies, and 3 are Marvel movies. I missed the window on 3D home theater, but with the right tools I can watch the 3D releases I do have in VR, which is admittedly slightly less comfortable, but works since I’m the only person I know that actually likes watching in 3D anyway.
I’ve got ADHD, I either binge eat for the dopamine, or I forget that I’m human and need food to survive, and then eat whatever’s fast and easy when my body is finally signalling hunger at a level that I can’t ignore. I try to keep some healthier options around for both scenarios, and it also helps to be around other people who have more regular schedules and I can follow their lead on meal times and join them socially. But when I’m alone, my personal diet is only “balanced” because it’s so chaotic.
Pretty easy to make a hub device that you can plug the keyboard into and make it transparent to the user. Could even build in a keylogger to capture direct from the keyboard. The attacker would likely need physical access for that, so it wouldn’t be as convenient as the thumb drive in the parking lot attack vector, but unless you’re using PS/2 peripherals (or gluing those USB devices in too somehow), there’s still a fairly open attack vector there, even if you are disabling unused ports in BIOS.
Moved my personal site off of WordPress around 5 years ago because, for my single-user purposes it was resource heavy compared to a static site generator like Hugo or Pelican. I also had quite a lot of spam traffic, even with anti-spam plugins, and eventually I just disabled comments outright and the new user registration page. Admittedly, I was never that active with it, so I’m fully willing to accept that it could have been a me problem.
I also recall the general security of WordPress being a concern around that time, mostly because it was a popular target, so a big part of me moving to a static site generator was just to avoid having to constantly get on and update WordPress for security patches, when I only posted on the blog a few times a year at most.
Fediverse support has me considering returning to WordPress, but I’m curious how much upkeep running your own instance is these days.
When my mom was a kid, her grandpa would often watch/listen to the TV, while listening to the radio, and watch out the window and announce who was driving down the road in front of their farm by recognizing their vehicles. Nobody considered it brain rot, his family considered it a skill he had.
Not sure how it works on Windows, but based on a bit or research, looks like it might. It is possible to connect a phone to the PC using the “Bluetooth Audio Reciever” app on the Microsoft store. Then the phone audio should play on the PC and should play through the headphones connected to the PC. Again, not 100% sure this is a viable solution on Windows, but considering I lucked into this solution on Linux without any effort, there’s probably a good chance you can achieve something similar on Windows. Might also depend on your computer’s Bluetooth adapter, so ymmv, but may be worth a shot considering the shortcomings of some of the other solutions.
I was absolutely on a version of the alt-right pipeline a decade ago. I was raised by far-right, Mike Johnson-style “Christians,” so I was already pretty far down that path before I was drawn into any pipeline.
Luckily, I ended up on a weird libertarian branch of the pipeline (LearnLiberty rather than Prager U), and somehow the YouTube algorithm steered me into Veritasium’s content on climate change, and clips from Adam Ruins Everything. It sounds a bit crazy, but those things started opening my eyes and expanding my worldview. Probably didn’t hurt that my favorite TV show at the time was Leverage, which had plenty of its own anti-corporate-grifting themes.
Eventually, I realized that the Libertarian utopia doesn’t work because greed is an unlimited resource, and that makes regulation important.
Of course, there were other things that helped me escape my upbringing and the alt-right pipeline during gamergate (I wasn’t into gaming at the time, so that probably helped), but looking back and seeing how easily I could have ended up being a January 6 insurrectionist. I’m so thankful for all the little things that nudged me out of that worldview, and helped me see reality.
I wish there was an easy way to show young guys that the people they are listening to are liars and grifters who are manipulating young men into believing that their real pain is somehow the fault of women. But if I look at my own journey, it was a thousand little nudges. I didn’t change overnight, but there was a day during the 2016 election cycle that I remember realizing that even though I had spent almost 8 years despising Obama, that he had been an alright president - especially compared to the Republican nominee, Trump.
