Yeah I loved the effects and the cinematography, I mean that’s what makes new movies fantastic… it’s a showcase of how real we can get things to look.

But the books were filled from cover to cover with worldbuilding that’s a whole lot more than vistas. There’s reasons and motivations that lead you to where the story begins and a failure to grasp at least some of those (Butlerian Jihad, Bene Gesserit, Guild Navigators and ofc the SPICE) leaves you with what @reddig33 said.

But the new movies seem very sterile, slow, and dull.

They are rote action movies that fail to evoke any real emotion, and that’s a shame.

Yeah if you watch the site for sales the Aeron can get decently cheap. Plus, consider that these chairs have a 10 year warranty, unlike the ones you pick up at an office supply store.

The Aeron really changed everything for me.

My grandmother told me that if she could offer me one piece of advice it would be to stop worrying about the world, stop worrying about the future. If your thoughts are always there, they’re never here and you just wake up one morning realizing how much time has disappeared.

She told me to just enjoy my life, every moment.

Pick up some acting classes and volunteer down at the local theatre to learn more about yourself, your expression to others, learn the intricacies of a great classic story and make new friends!

Honestly this is one of the few things that have improved in driving over the years. There’s still the occasional douchecanoe who rides in between both lanes to keep anyone from getting by, but that is now the exception as far as I’ve seen.

What ‘ruined’ Christmas this year was having to go home and spend it with my parents, one of whom is bedridden and non responsive from Alzheimers. It’s more akin to a wake where everyone is focused on someone who is dead and there’s little joy to be had. I’ve been doing it now for 5 years and there’s no sign that it will end soon.

It is incredibly stressful and morose. Christmas isn’t really joyful anymore because Mom could die at any time. The worst part of it is that all of us recognize that she’s suffering and so are we, but the government won’t allow any other outcome.

Still, the family shows up and puts in the work for caring for her for many reasons, the least of which is that she raised us for almost 20 years. She was a wonderful person and she’s owed that, bottom line. It is uplifting in a way because we come together and work together for a purpose and while it’s hard and sad, we’ve bonded over it nonetheless.

But… what kind of Christmas will we have once she’s gone?

While his later years were definitely marked with controversy and dumb to the point of evil decisions, he made decisions in earlier presidencies that without a doubt were helpful. You gotta understand this time period was what bought him the credence he used to get people to trust his later decisions.

Decisions we now universally regret.

Writing, specifically long prose. When there’s a story that just has to be told and I feel it in the marrow of my bones I’ll write and I’ll love it.

If someone ever handed me a deadline, all joy would be lost. Some things just aren’t meant to be a job for me and forcing the issue would only make me depressed and the writing abysmal.

Halt and Catch Fire doesn’t get into the nitty gritty enough to spoil whatever you’re studying. It’s a really entertaining look at that time period though. If you’re gonna wait till after the final, wait because you really don’t need this distraction.

Right on the money. Psychologically, the best defense is a good offense. Socially, it’s not the best choice for building communities.
