Yeah, I think that’s dumb but debates aren’t inherently required for elections.

I found it to be exactly the opposite. Everyone in DC is doing interesting things. There is a lot of passion and hard work as well. They mostly shy away from direct politics in a town that is incredibly political by its very nature. I’ve been helped on the street more by average people than I ever was around Atlanta, New Orleans, or the spaces between.

Like literally anything else in the office, ask the question and respect people’s limits. It can add to a workplace culture but not enough to overcome making someone uncomfortable. My dog is hypoallergenic so it occasionally gets special visitation privileges.

There is a decent argument historically that communism and other left movements are extremist, racist, and anti-lgbtq. When you start banning concepts, you open your communities up to several things.

1. Group think
2. Banning of other radical ideologies that you may agree with
3. You alienate those people from exposure to better concepts
4. You jump start compaction cycles for large scale propaganda organizations that could lead to actual violence
