Balatro does have a lot going on graphically and even my pixel 8 pro starts to heat up when playing it. The game’s art style may be pixel art, but there are a lot of shaders on all the cards and the cards themselves are either 3d or have some perspective stuff going on to make them able to rotate away from the camera

also, there’s the giant shifting background which is another complex shader that can’t be turned off.

I think the game has been optimized since release a bit, but still, it’s not just simple card images.

If I see you standing around taking pictures and videos with your phone I’m going to assume you’re just in it for your Instagram posts.

I can’t stop listening to this specific one, it’s been months and everyday I listen to it at work

these methods don’t account for all the variables that reality has. People across all boarding groups will be late, there will be people that need assistance from flight attendants, there will be people who want to switch seats to be near their family, there will be people who can’t sit in the exit row, there will be people who need to use the rest room, there will be people who’ve never been on a plane before.

There is no great, full proof way to handle it because people are unpredictable

I flew around 26 times domestically last year and most of the flights ran out of space. It’s really common for the airline to ask for volunteers to check their carry-ons. If you aren’t in the first 2/3rds of people on the plane, you’ll likely be forced to check your carry-ons.

This problem has gotten worse over the years because airlines have increased the prices for checking your luggage so many people opt to bring carry-ons instead.

but not everyone wants to buy yet (younger people, people who want flexibility, people who know they are moving [only in that city for school], etc).

People don’t want to buy a house because it’s either unaffordable, unavailable or the process takes too long. If you eliminate those aspects of home ownership, people wouldn’t mind and maybe even prefer owning a home for short periods of time.

I’ve been mostly making games for fun and am fairly risk adverse so am planning on sticking with a stable job and making games in my free time.

It’s discouraging, but it is reality. I still want to try, but definitely not putting more than one egg in this basket.

I’ve been doing itch and jams for a little bit, even managed to win one once. I’ve learned a lot but can’t shake this feeling that I’m just making free games for itch. You might be right though… whatever kind of sea of games I think itch is, the mobile sea may be a lot worse.

it’s a tough choice but I made a similar one. I shave my head every week or so with clippers with the smallest guard. I don’t like how shiny my head is sometimes but eh, overall it saves a lot of time and money. It’s not a big deal but society makes it feel like it is, especially if you’re a woman

Carry a bottle of water. You can’t just get water whenever you need it.

1. do not check anything
2. do not put anything in the overhead storage unless it’s a suitcase
3. if you’re bringing a backpack, put it “upside down” under the seat in front of you. the floor is gross, don’t put your backpack down and then put that grossness against your back when you get off the plane
4. if you’re in the back half of the plane, be ready to volunteer to move to an exit row just in case the opportunity presents itself before the plane takes off
5. if you’re scared of flying, know that the plane is shaped physically to stay in the air. Why do paper planes fly? because of their shape. Real planes are shaped waaay better.
6. only get water, no ice
7. write down where you parked or take a picture and know how you’ll get back
8. have your first meal planned when you arrive at your destination

this kinda contradicts your original point. Regardless, phones are a weird exception because many plans subsidize new phones; those getting new phones every year may be doing so because that’s part of how they can afford it

Additionally, even having a 2 year old phone can start limiting you. that’s around the point in time where you’ll start seeing apps no longer supporting some. functionalities on your phone. Phones also are one of the few luxuries many even have access to and they serve a practical purpose.
