If you’ve been on a date with them it’s kinda expected to turn them down. Time has been invested, if it’s a no don’t let them waste time.
If you run into them regularly it’s a bad idea regardless because leaving them on perpetual read with no resolution creates tension.
I did as a kid because I was different from everyone else.

When a conservative meets someone more conservative, they bitch about liberals. When a leftist meets someone more left than them they compete with each other to see who’s most “pure.”
This is a major problem.
They don’t take desperate people they take violent people.
If they’re desperate that’s more fuel for their racial hatred.
