Sometimes I will use something and realize I’ve owned it forever. It’s a nice change in our throwaway reality. I think my personal record is a bicycle multi-tool I got for one of my first bikes, ~25 years ago. Still have it, still use it. When it comes to electronic devices I have a Panasonic mini Hi-Fi from ~2005. Never felt like changing it.
What’s your record?

My usual drinking vessel is a souvenir cup from the 1992 Miramar Air Show. I still use a “boom box” style radio and clock timer from 1985 as an alarm clock. The tape player on the radio is long expired, but it still plays radio.
My glasses
still using the same ones, for years on end? Impressive.
Not spectacularly long, just long enough it’s the daily-used thing I’ve had for the longest.
Swiss pocket knife. 40 years of constant daily use.
A computer. Not necessarily the one I’m using, though this one is 5 years old. But I’ve been using a computer almost every day since I can remember, and I’m 35 today.
Happy Birthday!!
ETA: …you know, whenever it may be
Wait…no…I’m just saying that’s my age today. I was also 35 yesterday and will 35 tomorrow lol
But thank you, nonetheless.
Happy birthday in advance!
I think I made it right with an edit.
My computer’s age has a Ship of Theseus issue going on. The case is the oldest part at about 12 years old, the rest of the parts have been slowly replaced over time. Sometimes it needed a new GPU, other times it needed a new motherboard and RAM. The Power supply once went out and got replaced. The CPU is an i9 from just a couple years back. But, it’s still the same PC, right?
Vizio TV I’ve had for about 17-15 years. 2005 car that I’ve owned for about 7 years. Thermos bottle for about 6/5 years. Chippewa Boots I’ve had for about 5\4 years. Hope I have a longer list in 5 and 10 years
The switch on the light by my bed has been in my family for over 30 years. It’s been “mine” since my birth and still working perfectly.
Oooh, you just gave me a thought of mine! My bedside stand was a hand-me down from a college friend in the 90s. So I’ve been using that for close to 30 years now.
A Maple Bed frame that was custom made for me by a relative woodworker. It’s longer for my height.
How do you find a mattress for it?
When I was younger I just put a chunk of foam at the end of my regular mattress to make up the gap.
In the last couple of years a it’s custom made foam sheets with latex. Not cheap but possible from local foam shops or upholstery shops.
You can also find smaller traditional mattress manufacturers too but it’s not cheap but it’s still an option.
custom mattresses are either absurdly expensive or a cheap block of foam.
I sleep on a cheap block of foam, it’s not so bad.
it does make you realize there’s no such thing as an absurdly expensive mattress though
My toilet.
Team peepee or team poopoo
Team vom vom
Why not both?
Teamcloaca?
Team peepoo
Asking the important, hard hitting questions.
I have the first hammer I bought 20 years ago.
Using it daily?
When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Daily basis is what makes this so hard for me. I think you just made me realize I need to change my toothbrush soon.
There’s literally nothing else I use every day without fail. Closest would probably be my around-the-house belt, but I don’t always put it on. My phone is fairly new still…
Probably my Leatherman Skeletool or Wenger Toolbox: I don’t remember when I got them but I’ve had them both for years and they never leave my side (unless I have to fly on a damn airplane or something…)
We got three sets of bedsheets when we got married thirteen years ago, still using all of them.
Before we were married, my spouse got me a tea set; only two teacups left but I do use them daily.
But the winner is the engraved, personalized cereal spoon I got when I was five by saving cereal box tops and sending them in.
That’s awesome. I have some things from my childhood at my family home but nothing that I actually still use.
Cereal box top redemption!
