Pennomito Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Should I get financial help from an emotionally and physically abusive family member?English33•5MThis is a particularly difficult situation to give advice on because it could be totally harmless or completely dangerous, depending on the details.
You’re probably best talking to a therapist or other highly trusted individual who knows the specifics of the situation instead of random internet strangers.
Pennomito Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there an historical reason why female formal dresses have a huge variety of styles compared to male ones where the only acceptable style is jacket with pants?English14•5MThe “limited fashion choices for a man to wear” was enforced by men, not women. It’s not the slam dunk argument you seem to think it is. (Especially considering during the same era women couldn’t own property or vote.) Men have had privilege for nearly all of recorded history.
I know you’re just doubling down on your argument here, which is a normal human thing. You should really read up on the topic and see what experts say about sexism. There are lots of good citations in the Wikipedia article here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexism
Had an executive assistant at my company who did very little if anything. Nobody knew why she was kept around and paid so much. Everyone pressured the CEO to fire her, but he strongly resisted. Eventually she was fired, but immediately threatened to sue for sexual harassment. CEO threw her a lovely settlement check despite claiming that nothing ever happened. Mmhmm.
Pennomito Fediverse@lemmy.world•I had a scary thought: what if youtube decided to join the fediverse?English2•8MYou’re getting downvoted but you’re right. If they joined the fediverse that means you can have an account on any other platform you choose, including one you own. And that one account can access all the content everywhere. So basically you’d get all the perks of YouTube but few if any of the problems.
I totally agree. Intellectual property is a capitalist myth created only for the purpose of beating other people away from progress.
Any civilized society would believe in the free commerce of ideas.
