IEC C13 socket with C14 locking plugs. Already ubiquitous in data center facilities. Rated for voltages between 110 and 250, so it works for any country’s common household current.
Banner ads, not for a long long time, at least not intentionally.
Last week I needed parts for my snowblower, and Amazon was not helpful finding what I needed, so I googled the info I had. A competitor’s ad appeared as the first result. I was skeptical as hell as I clicked on it - my experience has always been similar to yours - but they had a comprehensive, easy-to-use database of parts, with diagrams, part numbers, in-stock notes, and cost all on the same page. No hacky website, just the right information presented well. Wound up giving them the business.
I guess not everyone is a rabid, cheating, lying SOB. Just many people. Lol

Nick’s Burger from Nick’s Tavern in Lemont, IL. 1/2 lb of deliciousness, built for the industrial workers at the plants along the Des Plaines River.
-
Hothead Burger from Lucky Monk in South Barrington, IL. T’was the perfect combo of spicy and fresh cow. Sadly, it is no longer on the menu.
Yeah, you get two best burgers. Complaints to /dev/null.

Zeusbottomto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the best (non-criminal) way to completely destroy the tourism sector in my home town.English1•2YYou’ve got your work cut out for you. Sounds like your town has a reputation for being a great place to visit. Correcting that impression should be your main goal.

Review bombing. Tell the world the cloud cover is 100% at all times, and there is no chance of seeing auroras.
-
Expand that into a an anti-PR campaign. “Wouldn’t you be much happier at $NEXT_TOWN_OVER?”
-
Put up warning signs for the fish, warning them quite clearly in large block letters against the German scourge. There is quite a large language barrier, but I’m optimistic that octopi could help bridge the gap.
-
A chain link fence might work even better. A ring situated in a 7-10km radius from your town coast ought to keep the big fish away and safe.
-
Leaflets dropped in the ocean are another idea, describing common lures and tactics used. However, keeping those waterproof in a eco-conscious way might be challenging, and the above mentioned language barrier would need overcoming.
-
Open a tavern at $NEXT_TOWN_OVER. Free beer for folk staying there, charge double for tourists from your town.
The above items are tongue-in-cheek, of course. This one isn’t:
- Become an advocate against over-tourism in your town. Overfishing and property value are real concerns. Propose limits on Airbnb listings. Tell your story about your struggle to find a place to live in your hometown. Amsterdam’s recent actions against overtourism might be a helpful guide on how to do this effectively.
Best of luck to you.

Zeusbottomto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever been under general anesthesia? What was it like? Did anything strange happen?English3•2YAs my steezy took pains to point out, general anesthesia is not sedation. General means you cannot breathe on your own. Sedation (like with propofol) means you can still breathe, but you have no working memory of what happens.
I’ve had sedation administered a few times in the past few years, two colonoscopies and a bone spur shave on my big toe.
Colonoscopies are fairly quick, maybe 30-45 minutes for the full procedure. There was a burn in my vein in as the injection was administered via IV, followed shortly by a dizziness that wasn’t altogether unpleasant. Next thing I know, I’m waking up in recovery. The dizziness lasted for about 7-10 minutes. Felt about 90% good for the rest of the day, 100% the next.
For the bone spur, I was out for about 2 hours. Experience was similar, except it took quite a bit longer for the propofol dizziness to wear off, maybe 4-5 hours. Not that I was going to drive anywhere with a recently operated toe, but there’s no way I would have tried. After a good night’s sleep, I felt 100% next day.
Buy a house. There isn’t any more land being made. (Except in Hawaii, what with the volcanos out there)
Lend some to Uncle Sam by buying Treasury bills. He’s been good for the interest payments. They tend to earn a bit more than bank CDs anyway.
If you’re really risk-averse, go for those bank CDs. Brokerage houses like Schwab can buy those on your behalf, and track which banks hold them, so you don’t exceed the deposit threshold at any one institution. Good luck finding 400 banks through a brokerage’s finder, though.
Buy stock in publicly traded companies. Or buy mutual funds. It’s good to get some growth in the portfolio, which fixed income alone can’t do.
Donate some to a nonprofit when you need a tax write-off.
Start your own company. Go back to school. Invest in yourself.
